Therapy for Addiction
I have 18 years of personal recovery experience. I walk the walk and I know that recovery treatment is not one size fits all.
Substance abuse, chemical dependency, food addiction, shopping addiction, internet addiction and all other addictive behaviors have one thing in common: during the experience of "using" it feels really good. It's a relief! Before and after using, not so much. Prior to using, one might feel numb, resetless, lonely, depressed, stressed, anxious, or angry. After, can lead to shame, withdrawal, discomfort, pain, headaches, and more emotional turmoil. Not to mention the devastating impact it can have on relationships, health and financial security.
The brain can get addicted and asks for more and more to get the same result, even if we know we shouldn't. This is known as tolerance. Addiction changes the brain's ability to make wise decisions.
It's a very vicious cycle.
If you can relate to the cycle of addiction, I would recommend getting help before it gets worse. Your bottom can be when you stop digging.
Addicts are highly intelligent, capable, successful people. Your past does not have to define you or your future.
